What to Do if Your Roof Begins Leaking During a Storm

    DouglasBy DouglasDecember 29, 2022Updated:August 7, 2023No Comments2 Mins Read

Floridians are not afraid of storms. Even the most experienced Floridians can be caught unawares when the downpour outside starts pouring through our ceilings.

When it comes to maintaining the integrity of your home, the roof is one of the most critical components. It’s the first line of defense against the elements, and any damage can lead to serious issues down the line. That’s why it’s essential to have a trusted partner like Resolve Roofing on your side, ready to provide expert advice and services when you need them most.

A leaky roof can be a stressful situation. Our top tips will help you keep your home dry, and minimize the damage.

    Get Rid of Everything

If you are lucky, the leak will have escaped through a tile floor that has no other objects underneath or around it. Most of us aren’t so lucky.

Your leak could be right above rugs, furniture, or any other material that is easily damaged by water. These items must be removed immediately.

Protect carpets and other items that you are unable to move from your home with water protection. To protect your carpet or other items, you can use a tarp, plastic sheeting and a shower curtain. To catch any dripping water, you can place large pots or buckets directly underneath the leak.

    Roofing Seal

You don’t have to worry about finding a permanent solution at this point. To stop water from entering, you just need to quickly close the hole. You can use sealant sprays, roofing tapes, and tars can be used to create a strong seal over the area where the leak is. It’s dangerous to climb onto your roof during a storm. You will need to find the source of the leak through your attic. These seals can be directly applied to your attic ceiling, which will stop water from getting inside your home.
