Nearly 4,000 homeowners surveyed by Houzz in October 2022 say they’re continuing with their home improvement projects for 2023. After spending so much time indoors during lockdown and extended quarantine, many homeowners want homes that reflect their personality, style, and lifestyle. Based on the results of this survey and a few design professionals, we’ve compiled a list of the top 20 home renovation trends you can expect to see in 2023.
Remodeling preferred over moving
The majority of homeowners say they are satisfied with their homes and neighborhoods and want to stay in them. 67% of homeowners looking to improve their home within the next three to 12 months say they would rather stay in their current neighborhood than buy a new one that doesn’t meet their needs. Only 38% want to move to a new neighborhood.
Popular projects home owners want to tackle
More than half of homeowners (58%) plan to begin their renovation projects in January of 2023 or later, and nearly one-third (29%) say they’re already in the process. Refurbishments are most popular in bathrooms (37%), followed by kitchens (33%). Many homeowners (32%) want to customize features in their existing homes. Many homeowners say they are choosing to stay in their current home because it’s more cost-effective to remodel than to purchase a new home (23%). Remodeling is also a better investment than buying a new home (22%).
Home is where the hard work is
Designers now prioritize home offices more than ever because remote work, including part-time work, has become the norm. The new office design focuses on comfort and functionality, with ergonomic furnishings, eye-catching colours, Zoom-ready shelves, and bespoke wall art. You’re probably allocating space within your home to create the perfect workspace if you’re building or renovating your home.
Luxurious mini3malist will thrive
We are not talking about bare-bones simplicity. Get out of here. Instead, we are talking about lavish maximalism. Lavish textiles, deep jewel tones, sophisticated textures, brass and gold hardware instead of boring black, ominous wall decorations, elevated chandeliers with gold accents, once-white walls covered in gold wallpaper are going to trend.
Spa bathrooms as new escape rooms
You can transform your master bathroom into a relaxing spa-like environment to help you unwind after a long day. Whether you’re looking to spend more time at home, or simply want a quiet space to reflect, consider a bathroom with an oversize bathtub, a standing-up shower, low lighting, and calming colors. Add some natural elements to your bathroom to create a calming atmosphere (and don’t forget the scented candles! If you don’t have a lot of space in your bathroom, consider installing built-in cabinet or shelves. This way, you can keep all your essentials close by but out of sight.
