Are you ready for the change in culture, the change in weather, and more? If not, you’ve come to the right place.
Read on to learn a few things you need to know about southern living before making your move down south!
Seriously, the Weather May Be Different
Depending on where you currently live, you may be used to four distinctive seasons. Of course, every state is a little different. You may have long winters and spring weather that lasts a few short weeks or long summers that seem to transition through fall and into winter in the blink of an eye.
The south is just as varied in terms of weather patterns, but there’s a good chance that southern weather will be different than what you’ve experienced. Most states tend to stay relatively warm all year round–and when we do get snow days or below-freezing temperatures, prepare for things to shut down. Without long winter seasons, many southern states don’t quite have the infrastructure to take on wintery road conditions.
Southern Hospitality Is Real
No matter where you live, you’ve probably heard of southern hospitality. No, you may not be invited into a stranger’s home for Sunday supper, but you’re likely to notice that people do take things a little slower and try to treat each other with kindness. Don’t be surprised if someone holds a door for you or asks how you’re doing and waits for a real answer!
In the south, community is important. There are tons of communities to choose from, so take your time when looking for the right neighborhood for you and your family.
Southern Living Isn’t Inherently Antithetical to City Living
If you haven’t spent much time in the south, you may have an idea of it in your head that consists primarily of rural areas. Of course, there are plenty of rural areas to live in if that’s your thing. However, southern states have major cities, too, and if you prefer city life, you can still get the warm weather and southern charm while living in a big city!
